Agencies are falling behind in preparing their teams for both the technology and management needs of the future.
A report from the Government Accountability Office revealed that some government agencies aren’t just using slightly outdated technology, but decades-old equipment. The report found that information systems at the Department of Education, Health and Human Services and the Treasury Department each contained sensitive information dating back more than 50 years.
Not only are these systems incredibly old, but they also need a specialized workforce to operate them, a workforce that is quickly nearing retirement.
Agencies have found themselves in a bind. Their technology is so outdated that it no longer meets the needs of their employees -- if those employees even know how to use it. Worse yet, those employees aren't ready for the new technology that agencies are beginning to bring in. Something's got to give.
